More Evidence Solo: A Star Wars Story Will Feature The Kessel Run
Even before he joined the Rebellion and helped bring down the Empire, Han Solo had crammed in years worth of adventures. Solo: A Star Wars Story will pull back the curtain on this period of the smuggler’s life, and ever since director Ron Howard posted a “spicy” picture last year during filming, it’s been strongly suggested that the upcoming Star Wars movie will show Han flying the Kessel Run, a feat he completed in less than 12 parsecs, as he bragged to Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope. Now there’s more proof that Solo will indeed depict this event, as LEGO is releasing a set centered around it.
By now it’s no secret that the Millennium Falcon will look different in Solo: A Star Wars Story compared to the “piece of junk” we’ve grown to love over the last four decades. It’s cleaner, sleeker and lacks the forked nose. Well as has been the case with many Star Wars vehicles, this version of the Millennium Falcon will be made available as a LEGO set, which is being specifically advertised as the Kessel Run Millennium Falcon. According to LEGO’s description of the 1,414-piece set (via EW), those who buy it will be able to “outsmart the villainous overseers and escape the Kessel Mines aboard the amazing Millennium Falcon!” The set’s figures include Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Qi’ra and a Kessel droid, which looks like its primary function is to work on Kessel’s spice mines. Two other LEGO Minis are also included in this Millennium Falcon set, but they’re still being kept secret.
Usually it’s not wise to use LEGO sets as official confirmation of a specific event or moment happening in a movie (as evidenced by the many Marvel-themed ones over the years), but in the case of this Millennium Falcon set, which will cost $169.99, it looks likelier than ever that Solo: A Star Wars Story will feature the Kessel Run, a hyperspace route that smugglers use to transport illicit spice from Kessel. While Lucasfilm hasn’t directly mentioned yet how the Kessel Run will fit into Solo, it’s possible we may have seen Han Solo and his allies traveling along the route at the end of the trailer that was released last week, as the Millennium Falcon was avoiding not just Imperial ships, but a lot of other weird obstacles. Han did a lot to build his reputation in the years before the original Star Wars trilogy began, and if the Kessel Run is indeed shown in Solo, then this is one of the events that surely helped boost his profile.
